Back
in the summer of 1996, Paul Marshall who was the drummer of 'Obssession'
and a good friend of mine was living in New Zealand.
He
had formed a new band called "Hangar
18". The name, famous in U.F.O. folklore, came from a 'supposed'
hangar in Area 51 Nevada, U.S.A. where the government was alleged to hold
a crashed U.F.O. and was attempting to learn from the technology since
1947.
On
one of his visits back to the U.K, Paul had asked me if I could produce
a small monthly "newsletter" based on U.F.O's that could accompany
their fan newsletter "The Inquisitive Alien Club" that they
distributed at their gigs and so 'GREY
matter' was born.
Created
from news sources obtained from internet news groups and magazines, I
wrote articles, scanned in pictures and laid out the mag on an Amiga 1200
computer using a desktop publishing program called 'Pagestream 3' by softlogik.
Keeping most of the news stories relevent to Australasia made 'GREY
matter' feel more 'local' to the readers and it proved popular. It ran
for 18 months before the band split up.
Hopefully
I will be able to get the original files from my Amiga 1200 and post them
here as hi resolution 'clean' images, but for now, I have scanned the
archive copies I kept for your amusement.
